Client
The University of Birmingham Enterprise (UoBE) is the University of Birmingham’s commercialisation arm. UoBE provides an end-to-end service for academic innovators, including practical and financial support for proof of concept studies and market research, training for academics, incubation services and facilities for hi tech and biomedical start-ups.
Unit 9 provides short-term incubation for Medical Technology companies that need appropriate space, equipment and facilities but do not have the funding for initial capital equipment or otherwise have not yet confirmed what type and location of space they will need for the longer-term.
Challenge
Raise awareness of Unit 9 amongst MedTech companies and clinical entrepreneurs and position the incubator as an attractive option for those looking for lab space and a supportive ecosystem.
Solution
We identified the assets and value proposition that made Unit 9 unique amongst the many incubators, accelerators and physical spaces targeting MedTech companies across the UK. Unit 9 provides scalable space deliberately designed to match the financial resources and commitment preferences of early stage spinouts and start-ups.
We secured exclusive placement of an article on Unit 9’s scalable lab space proposition in Med-Tech Innovation News. This is the leading medical technology media publication and has a significant start-up readership, reaching the exact target audience UoBE had in mind.
We also supported the development of a long form three page thought leadership piece, which we secured in the Clinical Services Journal. This positioned Unit 9 as an attractive destination for clinical entrepreneurs and an established innovation ecosystem within the West Midlands.
It focused on how Unit 9 could support clinical entrepreneurs in commercialising their innovations, drawing on the proximity to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and university research assets, and the collaborative culture within the space that helps to accelerate technology commercialisation.
